   Lake District
A popular tourist venue in southern Lakeland is Coniston - a small town sandwiched between some large fells and the long lake of the same name. With mountains only on one side the options here are more limited than in some destinations, but the quality of the fells keeps bringing the Club back here. The Old Man of Coniston is a well-trodden summit, and nearby Wetherlam and Swirl How offer excellent views to the south and east. There is good easy scrambling to be had on Steel Edge and the climbing options in the area are well known. Lower-level walking can be enjoyed towards Tarn Hows and the Grizedale Forest is a short drive to the east. Coniston is the home of Bluebird Bitter, and there are several good pubs in which to spend an evening.
